Fay Shaw, Chief Craftgineer

Picture
Fay is an engineer and crafter who has found e-textiles to be the perfect intersection of her interests and an engaging way to teach electronics.  She is interested in teaching engineering through making in informal learning spaces such as makerspaces, increasing female participation in STEM fields, and incorporating e-textiles into K-12 curriculum.

As of fall 2015, Fay is a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Engineering Education and Outreach at Tufts University.  Prior to joining Tufts, she was a Product Design Engineer in the Softgoods group at Apple. She has also spent time working at the Metrix Create:Space, a makerspace in Seattle.  Fay holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington, where her research focused on consensus and coordination in distributed multi-agent systems and wearable devices.  She obtained her M.S. from University of Washington and her B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University.
